There’s no doubt that hip hop/pop music producer, Timbaland, is a talented SOB, but in a recent interview he claims that he’ll be leaving the music industry soon because “music is so boring right now” and he’s simply “too innovative.” Alright, alright, Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake owe about 87% of their recent successes to the man, but a little bit of humility never hurt anyone. Besides a few key tracks that are most likely already dominating the summer club scene (”Give It To Me” & “The Way I Are”), his latest album Shock Value at best received mixed reviews and wasn’t necessarily ripped from the womb of musical genius. There was a “Sexy Back” rip off (”Release”, also w/ JT) and some weird collaborations with Fall Out Boy and The Hives. So perhaps his assertions that he’s the king of music ingenuity ruling a land of boring artists is a wee bit ill-timed. Prediction: He’ll pull a Jay Z, leave the business for a little while, and then shock everyone when he comes back bigger and busier than ever. Maybe he should have reserved the name Shock Value for his future coming-out-of-retirement album title. Not good planning, man.
